BERLIN (January 7 – February 12, 2011) – The Connecticut Cabaret Theatre is pleased to announce its sexy and sassy musical production of Kander & Ebb’s, CHICAGO, directed by Kris McMurray and musically directed by Rebecca Francis.
Premiering in 1975 and the hit of the 1997 Broadway season in a production that originated at City Center's Encore! series, Chicago won six Tony Awards including Best Revival and later the Academy Award as Best Picture of the Year. The musical takes place in the roaring twenties Chicago, where chorine Roxie Hart, played by the beautiful KARA NIELSEN with vocal dripping with honey, murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos, played by the talented BRETT GOTHEIMER, to take the rap...until he finds out he's been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another "Merry Murderess" Velma Kelly, played by stage veteran GINA BECHARD ROBBINS who oozes sexiness and has a tremendous stage presence, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the "American Dream": fame, fortune and acquittal. JONATHAN ESCOBAR razzle dazzles his way thought the justice system as the “Merry Murderesses” lawyer, Billy Flynn. And LOUSIE DECHESSER lays down the law as the tough and diesel Matron Mama Morton. This sharp edged satire features a dazzling score that sparked immortal staging by Bob Fosse, lovingly reconstructed and re-imagined by choreographers Matthew Collin Marrero and James J Moran.
"'A pulse racing revival that flies us right into musical heaven."-The New York Times "Wildly entertaining...[with a] dazzling score."-New York Daily News "As dazzling a demonstration of the craft of musical theatre as you're ever going to see on a Broadway stage."-New York Post
